SUPERINTENDENT

Under section 6 of Prison Act, 1894, there shall be Superintendent for every Prison. Under section 11 (1) he shall manage the prison in all matters relating to discipline, labour, expenditure, punishment control, subject to the order of the inspector General. Section 11 (2) requires the Superintendent of a District or sub- divisional jail to obey the lawful orders of District Magistrate respecting the prison. The Superintendent is the Officer in charge of a Prison within the meaning of section 15 of the prisoners Act, 1900, and other enactments.

JAILOR

SECTION 16 OF THE PRISON Act, 1894, requires the jailor shall reside in the prison, unless the Superintendent permits him in writing to reside else where. Under section 19 it shall not be absent from the for a night without permission in writing from the Superintendent; but if without leave for a night from unavoidable necessity he shall immediately the fact  and the cost of it to the Superintendent. Under section 17, he must give immediate notice of the date of a prisoner to the Superintendent and medical sub ordinate. Section 18 makes him responsible for the safe custody of records commitment warrants and other documents committed to his care, and for money and other articles taken from prisoners.

ASST. JAILOR

An Assistant Jailor shall be considered  to be on probation  for the first 6 (six) months of his service. He will be confirmed in his appointment when the Superintendent of jail certified that he is competent Officer, and that he is thoroughly qualified to carry on the duties of the Assistant Jailor. Promotion from the grade of Assistant  to the grade of Jailor will be entirely by merit and will made by the Inspector General.
