District Jail Wokha
Brief History of Jail
Few decades back Wokha jail has been established as Sub-Jail at Orchid Hill Wokha Town headed by SDO (Civil) HQ as Ex. Officio Superintendent, Administrative Head and DDO of the Jail and assisted by Asst. Jailor, Head Warders and number of Custodial Staff both Male and Female Warders. In the year 1997 the Jail was shifted to the newly constructed Jail situated at Vungoju Colony Wokha Town. Presently, as per the Nagaland Govt. Order the power of DDO and Administrative Head of the Jail has been reallocated to the Prison officers posted at District Jail Wokha designated as Office of the Superintendent of Jail, Wokha from SDO (Civil) Ex-Officio Suptd. Therefore, at present Jail Administrative Head and DDO is being executed by Dy. Superintendent of Jail, assisted by Asst. Jailor and its respective custodial and ministerial Staffs’.
However, in the Year 2015 vide Notification NO.PRI/HQ/ESTT-335/14/1680 dated Kohima the 28th march 2015(Ref. NO.JL-62/HOME/78 (pt-ii)/282 dated Kohima the 11th March 2015) the Nomenclature of Sub-Jail has been changed to District Jail.
