BRIEF HISTORY OF JAIL
District Jail, Dimapur was established in the year 1977 with a total capacity of 100 inmates (60 male and 40 female). The jail has 5 (five) barracks – 3 (three) for male and 2 (two) for Female prisoners and 3 (three) Cells – 2 (two) for Male and 1 (one) for Female Prisoners. There is a separate enclosure for Female Prisoners. The area of the Jail is 9 bighas 4 kathas 15 lisha.

District Jail, Dimapur has a capacity of 100 (one hundred) inmates – 60 (sixty) male and 40 (forty) female prisoners.
OBJECTIVES
“To ensure smooth functioning and administration of the Jail and also to ensure security and safe custody of Prisoners. To impart reformative and rehabilitative methods to bring the Prisoners to the mainstream of the society.”
FUNCTIONS
- To secure the safe custody of all categories of Prisoners
- Timely production of UTPs to court for speedy trial of their cases.
- To enforce proper discipline and good conduct among the staff and the Jail inmates as well.
